Easy Guide to Understanding MAXM Skate Data

More than just a beautifully engineered Skate, the MAXM solution also has an integrated Bluetooth sensor that captures real-time data to empower, motivate and engage patients and their clinical teams.

What do the percentages (%) mean?

Simply, the percentage represents the amount of flexion at the knee joint. Full range of motion flexion is considered 100% and for consistency that is set at 135 degrees of flexion, with full extension being 0%.

The image below provides the approximate correlation between the percentages represented in the MAXM Skate App, and the actual degrees of flexion and extension at the knee joint.

Why is the percentage approximate?

The data gathered by the Bluetooth sensor is based on assumptions that the patient is set up correctly in the chair, as per our education videos and Quick Start Guide which you can view here. A quick reminder of the chair set-up and what 90 degrees of knee flexion looks like can be seen below.

The state-of-the-art sensor and MAXM Skate App data has been shown to be remarkably accurate, and clinically we often find that the patient data aligns closely with measurements taken in the hospital, surgeon rooms or physiotherapy clinic.

What should my knee flexion percentage be at different stages of my recovery journey?

It is best to check with your surgeon or health professional about how much knee flexion they would like you to be achieving at different milestones like 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 weeks post-surgery or post-injury.

MAXM Skate is used to improve recovery for a wide range of knee surgeries and injuries such as total knee replacement (TKR / TKA), ACL, MPFL, arthroscopes, tibial plateau and trauma-related surgery and injury.

For this reason it is important to speak with your clinical team about range-of-motion goals for your individual situation, knowing that you have the ultimate knee recovery device and digital solution to help you achieve best outcomes.

“MAXM Skate empowers my patients to take control of their recovery.

They get real-time feedback on their progress, while I have the opportunity to view data and oversight of their rehab outcomes”
